Formula Ford 1600 is a number of championships which cater to 1600cc, Ford Kent powered Formula Ford racing cars. These are cars which were disbanded when the UK national Formula Ford category adopted the 1800cc Zetec engines in 1993. However, has been running as several regional club championships ever since and has recently enjoyed renewed success. Several cars constructed to Zetec rules have been converted to accept a Kent engine, as well as the Duratec powered cars that followed. There have also been several recent purpose built kent cars which have enjoyed successes.
In the British Isles, several championships are in existence for this type of car. These are; Castle Combe, which races exclusively at the Wiltshire venue of the same name with classes for cars constructed after 1995, 1990 and before 1990 with the championship winner being decided by which driver has the best results irrespective of class; Midlands-South, which is an amalgamation of the former Star of the Midlands and Motor Sport Vision championships and races at Mallory Park, Silverstone, Snetterton and Brands Hatch, with a comparable class structure to Castle Combe, except that the Pre 1990 class is divided into cars constructed between 1985 and 1990, cars constructed before 1985 and cars constructed before 1980. An identical class structure is used in the North West series which races at Oulton Park in Cheshire and Ty Croes in Anglesey. However, due to the number of competitors, races are held for cars constructed before and after 1990, with separate champions being crowned. National championships exist for the Classic championship which caters for cars manufactured between 1974 and 1982 and pre 1974.
2 Thoughts to “Formula Ford 1600 Masters v1.0”
fyi i’ve been racing several championship with 1600 and mygale 1800 for real
you said >in terms of acceleration and top speed it’s more like a ‘kart’ driver than a Formula 1 car<
well, it's nothing compared to an F1. period. Been testing for real an Arrows 96 and
a Benetton 96, So i know what i'm talking about. It happened you spot the exact
word: "kart" and that's where the FF1600 is similar, you got to anticipate the apex
and use the oversteer with open throttle – much like the kart. If you slide on the four wheels is better.
The speed yes, in this simulation is something lower: the Ford 1600 has a Kent
engine and i used to reach 220-225 Km/h max, following a car in Monza topped a
235 max speed (remaining there, if you exit is like braking hard)
The Mygale 1800 had a Zetec Ford and in the same occurrence got 290 Km/h
(these speed were measured with a speed gun right before the braking point to
get into the first right corner) .
There's no twist and bells about collisions but if you enable damages you get them
These cars were very dangerous for the legs of the driver, indeed you should try to
avoid an accident twisting the car so that the rear collides: you got the two springs
right above your knees!
if you think they are slow then try a race with AI at 120% at the Macau track.
To stop these too-much-words i resolve to state that this it's a decent simulation
and that your fun is quite proportional to how you setup the car.
PS: what the heck is the Wing setting (FF1600 never had wings)
If you set it to zero you cannot drive it!!! That's something…
The Formula Ford 1600 Masters is a good re-creation: It is fairly fun to drive and even with the traction control set to ‘LOW’ in the ‘REALISM’ menu — it is not difficult to steer. It takes corners at high velocities very well and brakes very well also. However, it isn’t nearly as fast as I expected it to be — in terms of acceleration and top speed it’s more like a ‘kart’ driver than a Formula 1 car — for the better and for the worse.
There appears to be absolutely no ‘visible damage’ model for this car — in contrast to every other vehicle that I have downloaded or tested for GTR2: Collisions at high speeds will only ‘SOMETIMES’ destroy/debilitate the engine……so that continuing a race is impossible……but wheels do not ever come off during collisions…….and I also wasn’t able to create an ‘engine fire with smoke’….in any of my collisions.
