Track Infos from Wikipedia :

Watkins Glen International, nicknamed “The Glen“, is an automobile race track located in Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for twenty consecutive years (1961–1980), but the site has been home to road racing of nearly every class, including the World Sportscar Championship, Trans-Am, Can-Am, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the International Motor Sports Association and the IndyCar Series.

Initially, public roads in the village were used for the race course. In 1956 a permanent circuit for the race was built. In 1968 the race was extended to six hours, becoming the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen. The circuit’s current layout has more or less been the same since 1971, with minor modifications after the fatal crashes of François Cevert in 1973 and J.D. McDuffie in 1991. The older of those chicanes, however, has since been removed.

The circuit is known as the Mecca of North American road racing and is a very popular venue among fans and drivers. The facility is currently owned by International Speedway Corporation.

The circuit also has been the site of music concerts: the 1973 Summer Jam, featuring The Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead and The Band and attended by 600,000 fans, and two Phish festivals: Super Ball IX in 2011 and Magnaball in 2015.

Track Infos :

75 Watkins, is based on the extended gp track which was used throughout the 70’s since 1971 and can be used for all types of cars upto 1980. The circuit itself was expanded in 1971, as the seventies brought a wide variety of competition to The Glen, including the Can-Am, Trans-Am, Six Hours, Formula 5000 and CART Indy Car Series. Race winners included many of the top names in international motorsports, including Mark Donohue, Mario Andretti, Jody Scheckter and Bruce McLaren.

Made a lot of changes to the original work done for the GPC79 track,to try and capture the atmosphere of the track as in October 75 when the F1 Grand Prix took place. Created new textures for odd buildings, banners, road and grass look, reworked the mesh and mapping to apply missing starting grid markings, remade Aiw to utilise these grid spots .the buildings, added the odd skid marks, lots of grass clumps to give it a bit of unkept look.

Also reworked the barriers to be the two tier type, except around pit area they were three, added the flat concrete base to the trackside barrier in pit road, made and added extra walls including the extra buildings to the side of pit road. which probably should have been in the 79 version, but at the time when the original track pack was created, time was very tight…

pit extras added, replaced the old 2d speakers for 3d, added animated flags to pit building. extra spectators. pit crews, and static marshals.

again thanks go to Chris Squir who originally created the “boot” for nascar2003 which was the base for first 79 track work.

rainreflections, animated marshals and gtr2 startlights added.

have fun!

cheers,
Ken
